A Daedra’s Best Friend is Clavicus Vile’s Daedric quest, and its star is a dog. Barbas talks, has opinions, and badly wants to make up with his master.
How to start
From level 10, a guard or Lod the blacksmith in Falkreath mentions a stray dog. Barbas is waiting on the road west of town.
Walkthrough
Barbas leads you to Haemar’s Shame, a cave between Ivarstead and Fort Neugrad, where Clavicus Vile’s shrine is guarded by vampires. Vile wants his old axe back from Rimerock Burrow before he’ll take Barbas back. Retrieve the Rueful Axe with Barbas, return to the shrine – and listen to the offer: kill Barbas with the axe and keep it, or refuse.
Choices
- Give Vile the axe → Masque of Clavicus Vile, a Daedric artifact. Barbas lives.
- Kill Barbas → the Rueful Axe, which does not count as a Daedric artifact.
