Karita is a Nord bard working at the Windpeak Inn in Dawnstar, the inn run by her father, Thoring. She proudly calls herself the finest bard in town – which, to be fair, nobody is lining up to dispute.
Where to find them
Karita is at the Windpeak Inn pretty much all day. She plays and sings for the regulars, sweeps the floor and helps hand out drinks when she has a free moment. She’s one of the few people in Skyrim who wears tavern clothes, so she stands out behind the tables.
Quests
The first time you talk to her, she brings up the bad dreams plaguing the townsfolk, noting that travellers seem to be spared. Chat with the Dunmer priest Erandur in the same inn and you can begin the Daedric quest Waking Nightmare.
Services
Like most bards, she can perform three songs on request. She’ll also happily point you towards a drink, since that’s what the inn is there for.
Personality & relationships
Karita’s mother, who studied at the Bards College in Solitude, taught her every song she knows and died a few winters ago. Since then, Karita has been running herself ragged at the inn and worrying about her grieving father. She gently tries to get him to talk about her mother, urges him to take a day off and even hints that the miners Irgnir and Fruki have been looking at him – a hint that sails clean over his head.
She enjoys swapping stories with the old woman Frida, including tales of Frida once saving Thoring’s neck in a fight and of Skald the Elder being young and handsome (Karita finds the latter hard to picture). Her patience runs out with the pirates of Stig Salt-Plank‘s crew, whom she serves with open contempt.
Good to know
She warns visitors to stay well away from the eerie Black Door outside town – the entrance to the Dawnstar Sanctuary. After Hail Sithis!, she starts mentioning shadowy figures coming and going through it.
