Thoring is a Nord innkeeper who owns and runs the Windpeak Inn in Dawnstar. He’s the man to see for a bed, a drink, a hot meal, or the latest gossip about the town and the bounties the Jarl wants taken care of.
Where to find them
Thoring spends his days behind the counter of the Windpeak Inn, where his daughter Karita performs as the house bard.
Quests
Thoring doesn’t hand out a quest of his own, but his inn is the stage for the start of Waking Nightmare. Dawnstar’s residents are plagued by the same awful dream night after night, and you’ll often find Irgnir and Fruki panicking about it at the bar while the priest Erandur tries to calm them down. Thoring sides with Erandur and asks the others to give him a chance. He also reassures guests that travellers don’t seem to get the nightmares.
Services
He rents rooms and sells food along with a few ingredients. Like most innkeepers, he’s also a handy source of rumours. Ask him for gossip and he warns you about the Black Door that everyone in town avoids. After Hail Sithis! he nervously reports that people have been seen coming and going through it, which is a hint at what now lives in the Dawnstar Sanctuary.
Personality & relationships
Thoring lost his wife two years ago and hasn’t really recovered. He often drifts off mid-conversation and refuses when Karita tries to get him to talk about her mother. Karita misses the old Thoring, the one who drank with the guests and told dirty jokes. She keeps nudging him to take a day off, and even hints that Irgnir and Fruki have been eyeing him. He completely misses the point and wonders whether they’re unhappy with the service.
With the old-timer Frida he trades stories from Dawnstar’s past: the day the townsfolk dragged the outlaw Hildolf the Skull-Splitter out of a cave after he kidnapped the Jarl’s son, and the wolf pack that stormed into town and almost cost Thoring a leg.
