Stig Salt-Plank is a Nord pirate and a captain in the Blood Horkers, a pirate clan that preys on company ships. He has been running a crew for them for about nine years, and you’ll find him and his lads making themselves at home in Dawnstar.
Where to find them
Stig hangs around Dawnstar with his crew, usually at the local inn. They are not the politest customers: the bard Karita has to bring them their mead, and Stig and his crewmate Alding take the chance to make crude remarks at her expense.
Quests
Stig is the key to the quest Rise in the East, which has you tracking down the Blood Horkers for the East Empire Company. He is the only person who can point you to the clan’s hideout. Ask him about the Blood Horkers and he happily brags that the war keeps both the Empire and the locals too busy to bother pirates. He also mentions Haldyn, the battle-mage who runs the clan.
He won’t give up the base for free. You have three ways to get it:
- Pay him off with a bribe.
- Challenge him to a brawl and beat it out of him.
- Kill or pickpocket him and read the note he carries.
Either way, he spills that the Horkers meet at a place the people of Windhelm avoid, then announces he is gathering his crew and heading for Hammerfell before Haldyn finds out who talked.
Personality & relationships
Stig is a cheerful scoundrel. He’s proud of his career, thinks of this era as a golden age for pirates, and takes a beating in good humour, calling you a choice insult when you win the brawl.
Good to know
- Killing Stig and his crew does not give you a bounty.
- After the quest, Stig and his men sometimes stay at the inn for good and only offer generic lines.
