Rustleif is a Nord blacksmith in Dawnstar. He runs the town’s forge together with his Redguard wife, Seren, and claims most of the town guard carry swords made right here.
Where to find them
He works at the forge next to his home, Rustleif’s House, usually with Seren nearby. The two of them live together in the house.
Quests
Ask whether he’s in charge of the forge and he’ll explain that Seren is expecting a baby and worries that their child won’t grow up with any Redguard culture this far north. He asks you to bring him a copy of Night Falls on Sentinel, a story from her people. It’s a simple favour, and agreeing is enough to start it.
Services
Rustleif is a blacksmith merchant: he sells weapons, armour and smithing materials, and his shop is mostly about steel weapons. He’ll happily try to upsell you on shields and gauntlets too.
Personality & relationships
In his younger days, Rustleif travelled to Hammerfell to learn smithing from a Redguard master. He ended up marrying his teacher’s daughter, Seren, and the couple returned to Skyrim to open their business. He still rates Redguard smiths as the best there are.
He’s a cheerful, practical man who teases his wife about the cold. When Seren suggests moving back to Hammerfell after the baby arrives, to keep their child away from the war, he insists it isn’t his war, but promises to think about it. He’s also done some work on ship moorings, and notes that sailors are superstitious about Dawnstar, a bad-luck port that tempts pirates with its ore.
Good to know
If Rustleif dies, Seren takes over as the merchant at the forge and doesn’t say a word about it.
