Jaree-Ra is an Argonian ‘treasure hunter’ who hangs around Solitude, near Angeline’s Aromatics. Together with his sister Deeja he leads the Blackblood Marauders, a gang of pirates who prey on ships along the coast – though he prefers to describe the two of them as the gang’s ‘representatives’ in town, since the Blackbloods themselves would be arrested on sight.
Where to find them
Loitering in Solitude near Angeline Morrard‘s shop until the quest gets going. He later retreats to Broken Oar Grotto.
Quests
Lights Out! – Jaree-Ra greets you as a fellow newcomer and pitches some ‘easy gold’. The Imperial ship Icerunner is due in port, and if the fire at the Solitude Lighthouse happened to go out, it would run aground and its cargo would be up for grabs. He insists the sailors will be fine. Put out the fire and he sends you to the wreck, where Deeja thanks you – and then tries to kill you. Her body carries a note proving that Jaree-Ra ordered it, and pointing you to Broken Oar Grotto, where you clear out the remaining Marauders and end him for good.
Personality & relationships
He is all friendly charm and weasel words: thieves steal what is precious, he says, but he only takes what nobody will miss. He keeps trying to recruit Sorex Vinius, who keeps turning him down. The townsfolk aren’t fooled – Heimvar calls him a plague on the city. He is also the brother of Gulum-Ei.
Good to know
- Killing him with the Ebony Blade charges it, since you technically did him a favour first.
- If anyone in Solitude is attacked he may join in against you, and he cannot be killed outside the quest; waiting three days calms things down.
- Clearing Broken Oar Grotto before taking the quest can make him and Deeja hostile on sight.
