Giraud Gemane is a Breton scholar and the Dean of History at the Bards College in Solitude. Despite the title, his teaching covers poetry, writing, history and court etiquette, and he is the author of the books Songs of Skyrim and Songs of Skyrim: Revised. He is also one of the best Speech teachers in the game.
Where to find them
At the Bards College, among his books and classes.
Quests
Tending the Flames – when Viarmo sends you after King Olaf’s Verse, Giraud explains the Poetic Edda, Skyrim’s living history to which each bard adds a piece. A translation of his led him to believe the bard Svaknir and the lost verse were buried with King Olaf in Dead Men’s Respite.
Rjorn’s Drum – after the Burning of King Olaf, he is beside himself with excitement: the famous Second Era battle drummer Rjorn vanished in Halldir’s Cairn, and he wants the drum back. He has been looking for it for twenty years. The college can’t pay much, so he rewards you with tricks from his army days: one point each in Block, Archery, One-Handed, Two-Handed, Smithing and Heavy Armor.
He may also give you a radiant job to fetch him a book.
Services
Trains Speech up to Master level.
Personality & relationships
Giraud loves history and thinks the present is a fascinating time that will be remembered for centuries. He is less fond of students, telling the headmaster they mostly interrupt his work. He nudges Illdi, Jorn and Aia Arria about their poems on classical heroes – though due to a bug those chats never actually play.
