Dervenin is a Bosmer who wanders the streets of Solitude as a beggar. He is in fact a servant of the Daedric Prince Sheogorath, who fondly calls him his “luggage”. He is also the reason you end up in one of Skyrim’s strangest quests.
Where to find them
Walking around Solitude, usually somewhere between the Bards College and the Blue Palace. Several townsfolk mention the odd elf talking about his master.
Quests
The Mind of Madness – Dervenin explains that his master went to visit an old friend in the sealed wing of the Blue Palace and won’t come home. Meanwhile their homeland is falling apart. Agree to help and he gives you Pelagius’ Hip Bone, which you’ll need inside. To get through the door you also need the key from the palace maid Erdi. When it’s all over, Dervenin shows up at his master’s table and is sent on home, and he is gone from Solitude for good.
Services
None, but like any beggar he gratefully accepts a single gold coin.
Personality & relationships
Dervenin speaks in riddles and despair. He calls himself an old madman, complains that everyone looks away, and describes his master as a great but unpraised ruler of twin empires that stretch across everyone’s mind – known to all, named by few. He grumbles that his master calls his pleading an interruption of his vacation. Without him, Dervenin says, the north fights the south and the holy flame is dying. When master and servant finally meet again, Dervenin is overjoyed to be going home. Sheogorath quickly cuts the celebration short.
