Helvard is a Nord warrior and the housecarl of Siddgeir, Jarl of Falkreath. Alongside the steward Nenya he acts as one of the Jarl’s two main advisers, and he is the man who has to turn Siddgeir’s orders into something that actually works.
Where to find them
He lives and works in the Jarl’s Longhouse in Falkreath, usually staying close to the Jarl.
Quests
Contract: Kill Helvard – he is one of the targets of the Dark Brotherhood. Walk up to him in the longhouse and he’ll brush you off as just another petitioner. Announce who sent you, and he starts yelling for the guards.
Civil war – if you help the Stormcloaks take the hold in Rescue from Fort Neugrad, the rest of Siddgeir’s court is swept out but Helvard stays, serving Dengeir of Stuhn as housecarl instead.
Personality & relationships
Helvard is a soldier first. When Siddgeir decides the guards look sloppy and wants their wages cut, Helvard pushes back: with a war on, Falkreath can’t afford to lose men. He complains to Nenya that every new war report changes what the town’s defences need, and warns her that selling weapons too freely might arm an invading force. He speaks well of Nenya’s service, calls being housecarl an honour, and has a respectful but frank view of Dengeir as a good Jarl whose time has passed. His loyalty is to the seat, not the man – he’ll protect the Jarl, whoever that is.
Good to know
- Hearthfire players: if Helvard dies before you buy the Lakeview Manor plot, buying it from the court can break. Tekla in the longhouse can still sell it to you.
