Frida is an elderly Nord alchemist and the owner of The Mortar and Pestle, the potion shop in Dawnstar. She proudly calls herself the oldest woman in town and has opinions about everyone in it, starting with the Jarl.
Where to find them
Behind the counter of The Mortar and Pestle. She also drops by the Windpeak Inn to swap old war stories with her friend Thoring.
Quests
Retrieve the Ring of Pure Mixtures – Ask how she got into the herb trade and she tells you about her husband, who died of frost while hunting for the Ring of Pure Mixtures, a ring that boosts alchemy. She found out where it lies – Forsaken Cave – but is too old to go cave-crawling. Bring it back and she rewards you with alchemy training. Afterwards the ring shows up in her stock, so you can buy it from her. If she dies after the quest, a courier brings you a small inheritance.
Services
She runs a full apothecary: potions, ingredients and cures for every ailment she can name. She’ll happily push a stamina potion on you, too.
Personality & relationships
Frida is blunt, grumpy and secretly sentimental – the town guards just call her a grouch. In her youth she was a battle maiden, defending Dawnstar from bandits and wolves alongside Thoring, and she reminisces about the day the townsfolk dragged Hildolf the Skull-Splitter out of a cave after he kidnapped the Jarl’s son. She admits she once fancied Skald the Elder back when he was still “the Younger”, much to the horror of Karita, before marrying the man she opened the shop with. He called her his “pretty Juniper” – a very alchemist kind of romance (juniper berries are a real ingredient). Her children have all grown up and left Dawnstar.
She thinks Skald is a fool and has high praise for Brina Merilis, and is openly relieved if Brina becomes Jarl. She also finds Silus Vesuius and his Mythic Dawn collection creepy. During Waking Nightmare she bluntly refuses to sell anything for bad dreams.
Good to know
- Her race is listed in the game as “Elder”, the generic old-person race, but everything about her says Nord.
- If her quest won’t start, other active radiant quests may be blocking it.
