Chicken’s Egg

Free eggs from chicken nests in towns – used for alchemy and for baking.

Chicken’s Eggs sit in straw nests around Skyrim’s farms and villages, and nobody minds if you take them – it’s never counted as stealing. Besides the alchemy lab, they’re also needed for baking, including bread and the famous sweet roll.

Alchemy effects

The effects are listed in the order you discover them by eating the ingredient or using it in a potion. Two ingredients make a potion when they share at least one effect.

  1. Resist Magic – reduces the damage and effects of hostile magic for a while. Also on: Bleeding Crown, Crimson Nirnroot, Hagraven Claw, Lavender, Nirnroot, Tundra Cotton, Void Salts, Wisp Wrappings.
  2. Damage Magicka Regen – a poison effect that slows the target’s Magicka regeneration for a short time. Also on: Bear Claws, Blue Butterfly Wing, Blue Mountain Flower, Glow Dust, Hanging Moss, Human Heart, Jarrin Root, Nightshade, Spider Egg, Spriggan Sap.
  3. Waterbreathing – lets you breathe underwater for a while. Also on: Histcarp, Nordic Barnacle.
  4. Lingering Damage Stamina – a poison effect that drains the target’s Stamina over time. Also on: Butterfly Wing, Nightshade, Small Antlers.

Tips and trivia

At a homestead oven (Hearthfire) eggs go into Apple Pie, Bread, Potato Bread and Sweet Rolls.

Where to find it

  • Straw nests near chickens in towns and farms – many respawn after a while.
  • In Riverwood: Gerdur's house and Faendal's house.
  • Mixwater Mill has at least nine; Snow-Shod Farm and Merryfair Farm near Riften have nests too.
  • Kynesgrove, outside Highmoon Hall in Morthal, and one nest in Winterhold.
  • Five in the kitchen of the Thalmor Embassy, one outside the Old Hroldan Inn.
  • With Hearthfire, buy a chicken for your homestead and it lays eggs for you.
