Shadr is a Redguard who moved to Riften about a year ago and works at the Riften Stables. He grew up raising horses with his family in Hammerfell and dreams of opening his own stables one day – he just didn’t count on Riften making that so hard.
Where to find them
Shadr works at the stables outside the city gates under Hofgrir Horse-Crusher, who took him in and teaches him the trade. He also spends time in the city, including the marketplace.
Quests
Stabilized: When you first enter Riften you may overhear Sapphire demanding money from Shadr on one of the bridges. He had borrowed gold from her to buy tack and harnesses from the Whiterun Stables, but the shipment was robbed before it arrived – and Sapphire practically admits she did it. Talk to Shadr afterwards and offer to help. You then convince Sapphire to drop the debt by persuading, bribing or intimidating her, or by using your standing in the Thieves Guild. A grateful Shadr hands over an item he was keeping in case Sapphire came for him, and from then on you can ride the Riften stable horses without it counting as horse theft.
Rescue (Dawnguard): Shadr can also ask you to rescue a friend from a master vampire.
Personality & relationships
Shadr is sweet, a bit nervous and completely horse-mad – he’d ride all day if the woods weren’t so dangerous. He is paying Madesi in instalments for a secret gift for Marise Aravel, and eventually stammers out an invitation for a drink, which she accepts. Mjoll the Lioness has asked him to prepare the stables in case of attack, and he runs a mysterious errand for Grelka involving a very heavy package. News of Helgen has him worried a dragon could burn Riften too.
