Madesi is an Argonian jeweler who sells his work from a stall in the market square of Riften. He proudly calls himself Saxhleel, his people’s own name for themselves, and is one of the last jewelers in Tamriel still working in the old Saxhleel tradition. Business is rough, though – bandits make it dangerous to fetch materials from the mines and other cities.
Where to find them
He spends most of the day at his stand. In the evening he takes a last meal at Haelga’s Bunkhouse, then returns to Beggar’s Row beneath the canals, where he sleeps alongside a couple of beggars. Oddly, he also owns a bed at Katla’s Farm.
Quests
Ringmaker – ask whether he makes his own jewelry and he’ll ask you to gather two flawless sapphires, a mammoth tusk and a chunk of gold ore. Bring them back and he rewards you for the trouble.
A Chance Arrangement – to get into the Thieves Guild, Brynjolf has you steal Madesi’s silver ring from his strongbox and plant it on Brand-Shei. Madesi is essential for part of the game, but becomes vulnerable afterwards.
Services
He buys and sells jewelry and gemstones.
Personality & relationships
Madesi is courteous, patient and quietly stubborn. He’s one of the few who calls out Brynjolf’s fake miracle cures in public, and he refuses to let Grelka‘s insults bait him into a fight. Svana Far-Shield offers him a bed at the bunkhouse, but he insists the cold stone suits him. He crafts Haelga‘s Marks of Dibella, keeps Shadr‘s secret about a gift for Marise Aravel, and has to chase Bolli over the jewelry bill Nivenor keeps running up. Even Maven Black-Briar leans on him for refusing Hemming a free trinket.
Good to know
Sneak past him and he’ll compare you to the Shadowscales of old. Argonian players get a warmer farewell, too.
