Hroar

Hroar is a young Nord orphan at Honorhall Orphanage in Riften who dreams of growing up as big and strong as the lion he was named after.

Hroar is a Nord boy living at Honorhall Orphanage in Riften, one of the kids stuck under the thumb of Grelod the Kind – a headmistress whose nickname is the biggest lie in the city. Ask about his name and he’ll tell you it comes from a lion’s roar. He has never actually seen a lion, but his late mother told him so, and that settles it.

Where to find them

He lives at the orphanage alongside the other children, among them Runa Fair-Shield, Samuel and Francois Beaufort.

Quests

Hroar is one of the kids whose lives change during Innocence Lost. Before it is resolved, he pleads with you to get him out, claiming Grelod has grown even crueller since Aventus Aretino ran away and that she might end up killing one of them. If Grelod dies, Hroar cheers along with the others and nobody so much as thinks about calling the guards.

Personality & relationships

He acts tough and swears he isn’t afraid of the old woman, but he clearly wishes Constance Michel ran the place. She slips him snacks, which matters a lot when the children get a single meal a day, served late in the afternoon. Unlike most of the orphans, he never says how he lost his parents. With Grelod gone, he admits the orphanage has become a decent place to live.

Good to know

With Hearthfire installed, Hroar is one of the children you can adopt (Hearthfire). Without it, he’s stuck there – a pity, since he’s sure he’d make a great son.
