Haknir’s Shoal

Pirate encampment northwest of Skaal Village on Solstheim where the Deathbrand Helm waits in a locked chest, plus a gold ore vein and a strongbox.

Haknir’s Shoal is a pirate camp on Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion, northwest of Skaal Village. It is a small cluster of tents around a campfire, but it plays an outsized role in the Deathbrand treasure hunt. Pirates aside, you will find some handy ore and loot here too.

What you’ll find

  • Pirates guarding the camp.
  • Tents and a campfire, with a locked chest set opposite them.
  • A gold ore vein close by, near the bodies of some dead Reavers.
  • An East Empire Company Strongbox hidden underneath one of the tents.

Quests

  • Deathbrand – the camp holds one piece of the legendary pirate’s gear.
  • Miscellaneous jobs from Fanari Strong-Voice, who wants the bandits dealt with after they stole food from Skaal Village.
  • Family Heirloom – given by Vilkas or Skjor once you are far enough into the questline of The Companions.

Notable items

  • Deathbrand Helm – in the locked chest opposite the tents and campfire. Part of the Deathbrand Armor set.
  • Gold ore vein near the dead Reavers.
  • East Empire Company Strongbox under a tent.

Tips

Deal with the pirates before you kneel at the chest – fiddling with a lock while someone is swinging at your back rarely ends well. Remember to look under the tents; strongboxes love to hide in the least dignified places. Bring a pickaxe for the gold vein on your way out, and if you are working on Fanari’s request, this camp ties up neatly with a stop in Skaal Village afterwards.

Good to know

Haknir’s Shoal serves several masters at once: a treasure hunter chasing Deathbrand, a Companion on a family errand and a Skaal villager hoping to get dinner back all end up at the same handful of tents. The dead Reavers near the gold vein suggest the pirates have not been shy about defending their patch either.
