Ebony Ingot

Ebony Ingots are the most valuable regular metal in Skyrim, smelted from ebony ore and used for Ebony and Daedric gear.

Ebony is the endgame metal every heavy armor smith dreams about. The Ebony Ingot is worth 150 gold, and its 39 forge recipes cover the entire Ebony set (Ebony Smithing perk), the Daedric set (Daedric Smithing perk) and several Dragonbone weapons. It is pricey and heavy on demand: an Ebony or Daedric armor alone eats five ingots.

How to get it

Smelt two Ebony Ore into one ingot. The top mine is Gloombound Mine with 16 veins, guarded by the Orcs of Narzulbur. In Dragonborn, Raven Rock Mine on Solstheim has 13. Redbelly Mine has 3, and 2 more are on the Throat of the World.

Blacksmiths such as Adrianne Avenicci, Balimund or Beirand occasionally stock it, usually in small amounts, and bandits sometimes carry an ingot.

Loose ingots are very rare: 3 in the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon, 3 out in the wild and one in Narzulbur.

Because demand is so high, many smiths prefer to mine and smelt their own. A single clear of Gloombound Mine gives enough ore for several pieces, and Raven Rock Mine on Solstheim is a reliable second source once you reach the island.
