Nahkriin, “Vengeance” in the dragon tongue, is a heavy dragon priest mask with an armor rating of 23. Its enchantment, Dark Sacrifice, gives you 50 extra magicka and makes Destruction and Restoration spells 20% cheaper to cast. It is the go-to mask for battle mages who want to throw fire in heavy armor and patch themselves up afterwards. One big warning: it is easy to miss forever.
How to get it
Nahkriin guards Skuldafn, the temple you visit during the main quest The World-Eater’s Eyrie. He waits near the portal to Sovngarde at the top of the temple. Defeat him and loot his mask before stepping through. Once you go to Sovngarde to face Alduin, you can never return to Skuldafn, so this is your only chance. If you are collecting masks for Konahrik, double-check your inventory before the portal.
Is it worth wearing?
Yes, especially for hybrid builds. The magicka bonus is useful at any level, and cheaper Destruction plus Restoration covers both damage and healing, the two schools most players use. Compared with Morokei, it trades faster regeneration for a bigger pool and cheaper spells, while also offering far better protection. Altmer can push their magicka even higher by combining it with the Atronach Stone. It is tempered with an
Ebony Ingot, the same material as Ebony armor, so improving it is no problem late in the game. The only downside is that heavy armor does not work with the Mage Armor perk, so robe-wearing purists may hesitate. Everyone else should grab it.
Good to know
- Missable: Skuldafn cannot be revisited after the portal to Sovngarde.
- One of the eight masks needed at the Bromjunaar shrine in Labyrinthian.
- Masks given to followers can vanish from their inventory over time.
