Sorex Vinius is an Imperial who works at the Winking Skeever, the inn in Solitude. Ask him and he’ll tell you he owns the place – then sheepishly admit that it’s actually his father Corpulus Vinius who owns it, and it’ll only be his once the old man is gone. His younger sister Minette Vinius works there too.
Where to find them
Usually at the Winking Skeever, fetching mead casks and running errands for his father. Night owls can catch him in the small hours on the stairs of the Solitude windmill, sharing a free drink with Vivienne Onis.
Quests
Rum delivery: ask him who runs Solitude and he remembers he owes a special bottle of Stros M’Kai Rum to the steward Falk Firebeard. Offer to carry it to the Blue Palace and Falk pays you a leveled reward. Keep the rum or rob Sorex, and hired thugs come looking for you. If Sorex later dies after you’ve made that delivery, a courier brings you a small inheritance of 100 gold.
During the Burning of King Olaf festival he hands out free meat pies – strictly one per person, and they’re really ordinary apple pies.
Services
Sorex is a merchant at the inn, selling food and drink.
Follower & marriage
Sorex can be married. Wear an Amulet of Mara, talk to him and he’ll take the hint. Once wed, he opens a shop and shares the daily profits with you. If you settle in his home, the Winking Skeever becomes yours too. (Hearthfire) With adopted children, he finds fault with almost every house you move into except Proudspire Manor in Solitude.
Personality & relationships
Sorex has a crush on Vivienne that goes back to childhood. He even buys spiced wine from Evette San to give her, though the Skeever has plenty, and he flirts with Erdi by offering drinks on the house. He keeps turning down Jaree-Ra‘s business offers, and he daydreams about seeing the world rather than taking over the bar.
He has no sympathy for Roggvir, who bullied him mercilessly as a kid after learning about his feelings for Vivienne – including the time he put a beehive in his bed. Hurt one of his family and Sorex will come after you, though he’ll listen to an explanation before drawing a weapon.
