Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness and ruler of the Shivering Isles – and in Skyrim he’s on vacation. Instead of tending to his realm, he has spent years hanging out inside the mind of an old friend, the late Emperor Pelagius Septim III, whose memory lingers in the Pelagius Wing of the Blue Palace in Solitude. He looks like a well-dressed Breton gentleman, but don’t let that fool you.
Where to find them
You can’t simply walk up to him in town. You meet Sheogorath only by entering Pelagius’ mind during The Mind of Madness, where you find him sitting at a table chatting with the Emperor.
Quests
The Mind of Madness: his loyal servant Dervenin wanders Solitude begging for someone to bring his master home. Dervenin has already tried asking nicely and has even fetched Pelagius’ Hip Bone to change the Prince’s mind – no luck. He hands the bone to you instead, and it carries you into Pelagius’ head.
Sheogorath agrees to end his holiday on one condition: you have to find your own way out. That means curing the three worst problems in the Emperor’s mind – his paranoia, his night terrors and his crushing self-loathing. To help, the Prince gives you the Wabbajack, his famously unpredictable staff. Once Pelagius is sorted out, Sheogorath keeps his word, sends Dervenin ahead and lets you keep the Wabbajack as a parting gift, with an open invitation to look him up in New Sheoth.
Personality & relationships
Exactly as unhinged as you’d hope. He reminds you that he’s an immortal Mad God who deserves careful treatment, then wanders off on tangents about riding narwhals and sleeping in honeycombs during his youth. He guesses wildly at who sent you, forgets what you’re doing halfway through a progress report and spends his time telling Pelagius the same old story about his part in the Oblivion Crisis over and over.
His absence has real consequences: back home, Mania and Dementia have gone to war and the Flame of Agnon is dying out. Dervenin is distraught, while one of the Prince’s mad followers thinks his vacation should not be disturbed at all.
Oddly enough, this version of the Madgod actually wants someone cured. He insists you didn’t “fix” Pelagius, only “treated” him, and then announces he’s rather proud that the Emperor finally got his head together, claiming he always knew Pelagius had it in him.
Good to know
He is voiced by Wes Johnson, returning to the role he played in Oblivion’s Shivering Isles expansion. It’s also his first appearance without his trademark cane.
