Purple flowers from the Whiterun plains – Resist Magic, Fortify Stamina and Fortify Conjuration.

Lavender’s purple sprigs brighten the grassy plains around Whiterun. It’s dirt cheap and easy to find, and Resist Magic, Fortify Stamina and Fortify Conjuration make it a useful all-rounder. It also goes into cooking, such as Horker Stew.

Alchemy effects

The effects are listed in the order you discover them by eating the ingredient or using it in a potion. Two ingredients make a potion when they share at least one effect.

  1. Resist Magic – reduces the damage and effects of hostile magic for a while. Also on: Bleeding Crown, Chicken’s Egg, Crimson Nirnroot, Hagraven Claw, Nirnroot, Tundra Cotton, Void Salts, Wisp Wrappings.
  2. Fortify Stamina – raises your maximum Stamina for a while. Also on: Chaurus Eggs, Garlic, Large Antlers, Slaughterfish Egg, Torchbug Thorax.
  3. Ravage Magicka – a concentrated poison that lowers the target’s Magicka for a while. Also on: Frost Mirriam, Grass Pod, Orange Dartwing, Red Mountain Flower, White Cap.
  4. Fortify Conjuration – makes your Conjuration spells last longer for a while. Also on: Berit’s Ashes, Blue Butterfly Wing, Blue Mountain Flower, Bone Meal, Frost Salts, Hagraven Feathers.

Tips and trivia

The Herbalist’s Guide suggests it with Bleeding Crown for magic resistance.

Where to find it

  • Grassy plains – Whiterun Hold has the most.
  • At least three around the Temple of Kynareth in Whiterun, plus two inside.
  • A giant sprig ten times the normal size stands in a vase behind the throne of the Blue Palace in Solitude.
  • Alchemists, mages and apothecary's satchels.
