Old Hroldan Inn

Roadside inn in the Reach where Tiber Septim reportedly slept after his victory at Old Hrol’dan, home of a ghostly quest and a Two-Handed skill book.

Old Hroldan Inn sits just south of Soljund’s Sinkhole in the Reach, beside the spot where two rivers meet, and forms the heart of the tiny settlement of Old Hroldan. It looks like any other rustic roadside inn, but it carries a heavy dose of history: this is supposedly where Hjalti Early-Beard, the future Tiber Septim, bedded down after breaking the Reachmen at Old Hrol’dan. Come for a cheap bed, stay for a ghost.

What you’ll find

  • Eydis, the innkeeper, and her young son Skuli.
  • Leontius Salvius, an Imperial on rather frosty terms with his father.
  • Tiber Septim’s old room with the big bed – the main attraction for history buffs and ghost hunters alike.

History

In the Second Era, Hjalti and a small band of Colovian soldiers and Nord berserkers smashed a Reachman army here. According to legend, his Thu’um brought down the walls of Old Hrol’dan, and the victory earned him the names Talos and Stormcrown. The Pocket Guide to the Empire even claims the area once belonged to High Rock.

Tips

Items in Tiber Septim’s room are not marked as stolen, so the skill book is a free grab, although the big bed counts as owned until you rent it (the small side bed always does). After you finish the ghost’s quest, nothing in the inn counts as theft any more. Cast a spell indoors and Skuli will beg to be turned invisible; shout and he’ll ask if you’re one of the Greybeards.

Good to know

Skuli sometimes asks where his father is, and Eydis can’t quite keep her story straight about which side he’s fighting for. A Torn Note addressed to Eydis, found by a body in Chillwind Depths, hints at the sad answer.
