Eydis is a Nord who runs Old Hroldan Inn at Old Hroldan, east of Markarth, with help from her young son Skuli. Her big selling point is history: she claims her inn has the very bed Tiber Septim slept in after he captured Old Hroldan, his first known victory, back in the Second Era.
Where to find them
She is at the inn, serving guests and keeping Skuli busy with chores like washing the linens.
Quests
Renting Tiber Septim’s room starts The Ghost of Old Hroldan. Spend the night in the famous bed and you’ll be woken by Eydis screaming about a ghost strolling around her inn as if he owned it. She is convinced he is one of Tiber Septim’s soldiers. When you report that the ghost wants his sword, she recalls a legend about an enemy camp Septim attacked before reaching Old Hroldan and marks it on your map. She has never heard of anyone called Hjalti, though, and guesses it might be one of Septim’s many names.
Services
As innkeeper she sells food and drink and rents out Tiber Septim’s room for 10 gold.
Personality & relationships
Eydis is proud of her inn’s past and fiercely defends Skuli’s abilities, insisting he can deal with any drunk. Her husband Firir is a sorer subject. She tells people he’s off fighting in the war, but when Skuli asks, she can’t keep straight which side he’s supposed to be on, flipping between the Empire and the Stormcloaks. Leontius Salvius works for her, chopping wood and helping out.
Good to know
The truth about Firir is grim: his body lies in Chillwind Depths with a note apologising to Eydis, but there’s no way to give it to her. Sit down in the inn and she’ll snap at Skuli to look alive, sending him over to trade with you. If Eydis dies, the inn stays open.
