Hjalti’s Sword is an old Ancient Nord sword wanted by a ghost – and, if the theories are right, it may once have belonged to Tiber Septim himself.
The quest: The Ghost of Old Hroldan
Spend the night at Old Hroldan Inn, southeast of Markarth, and you’ll meet a ghost who asks for Hjalti’s sword. The innkeeper then points you to one of these locations at random:
- Broken Tower Redoubt
- Bruca’s Leap Redoubt
- Deepwood Redoubt
- Druadach Redoubt
- Gloomreach
- Hag Rock Redoubt
- Red Eagle Redoubt
- Serpent’s Bluff Redoubt
- Sundered Towers
Found it before getting the quest? You can hand it to the ghost straight away.
Who was Hjalti?
Hjalti Early-Beard is said to be Tiber Septim’s original name in one theory of his origins – which would make this the future emperor’s sword. Oddly, it looks like an Ancient Nord sword, even though Tiber Septim’s conquest of the Reach happened in the Second Era.
