Silus Vesuius is an Imperial scholar, history buff and proud Mythic Dawn fanboy living in Dawnstar. Yes, that Mythic Dawn: the cult that murdered the Septim emperors and threw open the gates of Oblivion. Most people would keep quiet about ancestors like that. Silus turned his house into a museum about them.
He is especially fascinated by Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedric Prince the cult served, and claims his own family was part of the order. In his eyes the exhibits are a family legacy that history should not forget. In everyone else’s eyes, it is a very bad idea in a nicely lit room.
Where to find them
Silus lives and works in his own home in Dawnstar, which doubles as the Museum of the Mythic Dawn. Inside you’ll find locked display cases holding cult robes, gloves and boots, all four volumes of the Mythic Dawn Commentaries, a burned scrap said to be all that remains of the Mysterium Xarxes, and an empty scabbard bearing the symbol of an Oblivion Gate.
Quests
Silus starts Pieces of the Past. The first time you pass his door he is usually arguing with Madena, who begs him to let the past stay buried. He shrugs her off, invites you in for a tour, and then gets down to business.
After the Oblivion Crisis, a group hunting the last of the Mythic Dawn got hold of Mehrunes’ Razor, split it into three parts and swore to keep them apart forever. Descendants of that group still hold the pieces here in Skyrim. Silus wants them back: two are held by dangerous outlaws, and the third by Jorgen in Morthal. He pays you for each fragment, no questions asked.
Once all three are in hand, Silus reveals that the scabbard in his museum is the fourth piece and that he knows how to make the Razor whole again. He meets you at the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon to ask the Prince himself for help. When the altar stays silent for him, he asks you to try. What happens next is your call: Silus begs for his life and offers to lock the pieces away in his museum. You can cut him down, or let him run home to Dawnstar with a bag of gold for your trouble.
Personality & relationships
Silus is earnest, a bit starry-eyed and convinced that scholars from far and wide will one day visit his museum. He clashes with Madena, who thinks his collection honours a cult that should be forgotten. If you spare him at the shrine, the experience seems to cure him of his ambitions: he talks about wanting a quiet life, keeps the Razor business to himself, and says he owes you his life.
Good to know
- Silus claims to descend from one of the Mythic Dawn agents who went after Emperor Uriel Septim VII during the Oblivion Crisis.
- His Mythic Dawn Robes greatly speed up Magicka regeneration, which is one reason some players aren’t in a merciful mood at the shrine.
- If he dies after you send him running, a courier may bring you a small inheritance and a letter from the Jarl, Skald the Elder or Brina Merilis, depending on who rules Dawnstar.
- Kill him in his museum and loot the displays, and hired thugs may come after you with a contract he paid for.
