Beirand is the Nord blacksmith who runs the Solitude Blacksmith in Solitude. He is married to Sayma, who owns the shop Bits and Pieces, and they have a son, Kayd. With the Legion headquartered in the city, his forge practically never cools: almost everything he makes goes to soldiers training in Solitude or fighting out in the field.
Where to find them
At his forge in Solitude, usually with his apprentice Heimvar nearby. He also turns up in the crowd at Roggvir‘s execution, loudly on the side of the headsman.
Quests
Get Outfitted – once you join the Imperial Legion, General Tullius sends you to Beirand for gear. He asks one question – light, medium or heavy? – and hands over the matching set of Imperial armor. It’s one free outfit per soldier, so if you lose it, you are paying like everybody else.
Services
He is a blacksmith and merchant who buys and sells weapons and armor, and his forge is right there if you want to do your own smithing.
Personality & relationships
Beirand isn’t really an Imperial loyalist. He calls himself a king’s man – or a jarl’s man now – and his loyalty belongs to Solitude, so he follows wherever Jarl Elisif leads. Ask why he doesn’t go to war himself and he points to his family: Sayma would skin him for even suggesting it, and he reckons arguing with her would be scarier than any battlefield.
He likes to rib Heimvar that young Kayd could work the bellows better, and reassures Sayma that the family will get through the quiet times at her shop. If the Stormcloaks take Solitude, he simply keeps forging – just for the new owners.
Good to know
The source wiki lists him as essential until Get Outfitted is completed, so you can’t lose your free armor by accident.
