Runa Fair-Shield is a young Nord girl living at Honorhall Orphanage in Riften. As the only girl among the orphans, she complains the boys leave all the chores to her. Mostly, though, she wants out – and she’ll happily ask you to take her.
Where to find them
Runa lives at Honorhall Orphanage alongside Samuel, Hroar and Francois Beaufort, under the care (if you can call it that) of Grelod the Kind and the much kinder Constance Michel.
Quests
Runa has no quest of her own, but she is one of the children who will happily tell you about Aventus Aretino, the boy who ran away to Windhelm to call the Dark Brotherhood on Grelod. What happens to Grelod afterwards changes Runa’s mood considerably.
Adoption (Hearthfire)
With Hearthfire installed, Runa can be adopted once Grelod is out of the picture and you have a home with space for a child. Like other adopted kids, she sometimes leaves useful bits and pieces – food, ingredients, jewellery, even weapons – in the chest by her bed. Give her a dagger or wooden sword and she will train on a practice dummy if your home has one, and she may one day bring home a stray animal and beg to keep it.
Personality & relationships
Runa hates Grelod with a child’s full intensity and is terrified of her; after Aventus escaped, she says, the beatings doubled. She clearly loves Constance, who tries to protect the children. Once Grelod is dead she admits life has improved, but she is still sick of the orphanage and keen to be picked. Harm Constance, however, and Runa will never forgive you.
