Romlyn Dreth

Romlyn Dreth is a Dunmer worker at the Black-Briar Meadery in Riften who quietly sells stolen Black-Briar Mead on the side.
“I’m selling the best mead in town for cheap. Interested?”

Romlyn Dreth is a Dunmer bootlegger living in Riften. On paper he works at the Black-Briar Meadery; in practice he is the reason the meadery keeps coming up a few cases short. Romlyn sells the good stuff well below the prices Maven Black-Briar charges, and he would very much like you to keep that between the two of you.

Where to find them

Romlyn has a small house down on the lower level of Riften, “under” the main streets. When he isn’t home, he is usually either at the Black-Briar Meadery or having a drink at the Bee and Barb.

Quests

Under the Table: Romlyn can’t be seen leaving the city with merchandise, so he asks you to carry a keg of Black-Briar Mead to Wilhelm, who runs the inn in Ivarstead. Wilhelm pays you in goods for the delivery. Romlyn also warns you to keep quiet around Indaryn, the meadery’s brewmaster. If you would rather play the honest citizen, you can report Romlyn to Indaryn instead – just know that Romlyn will hold a grudge for the rest of the game.

Services

Ask what he is selling and he will offer you a bottle of Black-Briar Mead for 10 gold, no questions asked. He is happy to repeat the deal as often as you like.

Follower & marriage

Romlyn is one of Skyrim’s marriage candidates. Helping him with his delivery is the natural way to get on his good side first. According to the source, he may even keep offering his cut-price mead after the wedding, though that detail is unconfirmed.

Personality & relationships

Romlyn is a smooth talker with a chip on his shoulder about the people above him. Indaryn has already told him the stock counts don’t add up, and Romlyn’s response is to insist that a Dreth would never steal. He has also tried to talk Indaryn into a scheme against a rival meadery in Whiterun, which Indaryn refuses to touch without Maven’s approval. With Niluva Hlaalu he grumbles that Indaryn will push the workers too far one day. At the bar he likes to tell Keerava about a relative named Valen who supposedly took down six Imperial guards. Keerava has heard the story many times, and it seems to get bigger with each telling.

Good to know

Romlyn carries two keys with nearly identical names. Only one of them opens his house; the other doesn’t fit any lock in the game.
