Wilhelm is a Nord innkeeper and the owner of the Vilemyr Inn in Ivarstead. Most of his guests are pilgrims on their way to High Hrothgar, so he’s always glad to see a new face – and quick to tell them which spooky barrow to avoid.
Where to find them
Behind the counter of the Vilemyr Inn. The game marks him as essential, so he can’t be killed.
Quests
- Lifting the Shroud: Wilhelm is convinced Shroud Hearth Barrow on the east side of town is haunted – he swears a spirit’s glare burned right through his soul, and the rumours are bad for business. A treasure hunter named Wyndelius Gatharian went in a year or two ago and never came out. Bring Wilhelm Wyndelius’s journal and the “ghost” story falls apart; he rewards you with the Sapphire Dragon Claw you need to go deeper into the barrow.
- The Straw that Broke: Narfi sends you to ask about his missing sister Reyda. Wilhelm admits he only told Narfi she’d return to spare his feelings, and points you to the river island where she gathered ingredients, near Geirmund’s Hall.
- Under the Table: Romlyn Dreth in Riften asks you to deliver a stolen Black-Briar Mead keg to Wilhelm.
Services
Rooms, food and drink, plus general innkeeper trading. He’s also the inn’s resident gossip on everything happening in town.
Follower & marriage
Wilhelm becomes a marriage candidate once Lifting the Shroud is completed. Wear an Amulet of Mara and talk to him.
Personality & relationships
Friendly, practical and a bit superstitious, Wilhelm has no time for mages: he’s happy they keep to Winterhold and doesn’t even like the Jarl keeping a court wizard. He looks out for poor Narfi, calls him harmless, and frets over his inn’s reputation. Once the barrow mystery is solved, he hopes Ivarstead will see more than the occasional pilgrim. Regulars include Bassianus Axius, and the bard Lynly Star-Sung works at his inn.
Good to know
A note called An Apology, found in The Pawned Prawn, suggests that he and the shop’s owner Bersi Honey-Hand are old friends, and that Bersi had asked him to look into Shroud Hearth Barrow, since barrow trinkets sell well.
