Bloodlet Throne

Vampire-held fort in the far southern mountains southwest of Helgen, with traps, a master vampire on his throne, wolves on a lever and an alchemy lab.

Bloodlet Throne is a fort in Skyrim’s southernmost mountain range, southwest of Helgen and just short of the border with Cyrodiil. A coven of vampires has made it their home, complete with thralls, guard wolves and a master vampire who treats your arrival as the evening’s entertainment. It is a common stop for several quests that need a vampire nest cleared.

What you’ll find

  • Vampires, vampire’s thralls and wolves. With Dawnguard installed, gargoyles and death hounds join the party.
  • A throne room guarded by a Master Vampire and his underlings. They comment on your entrance even if you are sneaking, then the master pulls a lever beside his throne to release two or three wolves – or death hounds with Dawnguard installed.
  • Vampires that like to raise the Breton corpse on the bed and the dead bandits in the throne room.
  • Plenty of locked doors and chests, oil lamps and oil pools, and a pressure plate right inside the entrance that sets off a fire trap.
  • An Alchemy Lab and an Arcane Enchanter.
  • An iron ore vein at the start of the frozen caves and a silver ore vein in the tunnel behind the throne.

Quests

  • Family Heirloom, Trouble in Skyrim, Shalidor’s Insights and Onmund’s Request.
  • Dark Ancestor – if active, Vighar replaces the regular master vampire.
  • Radiant location for Totems of Hircine and Meridia’s Beacon (The Break of Dawn).
  • Ancient Power, Culling the Beast and Cleansing Light (Dawnguard); Wind and Sand (Dragonborn).

Notable items

  • Incident at Necrom – Illusion skill book in the storeroom.
  • A dagger with a random enchantment, also in the storeroom.
  • A Black Soul Gem.
  • The book The Wolf Queen, Book V.
  • A leveled bow and arrows on a table in the collapsed tower on the roof.

Tips

Watch your feet the moment you walk in – the pressure plate by the entrance is there to toast careless visitors. Further in, the oil traps cut both ways: lure vampires onto the slick and drop a lamp on them.

Outside, it is worth a climb before you leave. Jump up at the back of the fort and work round the side to a ramp leading into the broken tower on top, where the bow, arrows and a rooftop chest wait. Bring fire spells and cure disease potions, because vampires never make good hosts.
