Iron-Breaker Mine is a working iron mine in Dawnstar, right beside The White Hall. It belongs to Beitild, who insists it is worth three times as much as the rival Quicksilver Mine and its owner. Come here to mine iron for your smithing, listen to some honest workplace complaining and check out a sneaky secret near the entrance.
What you’ll find
- Miners Bodil, Gjak and Karl hacking at the veins by day. Some work in silence; others moan about the hard conditions and poor pay, and one never stops sniping at the Quicksilver crew.
- Six iron ore veins: one at the bottom of the entrance ramp, one to the southwest of it, two along the northeast and southeast walls past a small walkway and cold firepit, and two at the southern end beyond a hole in the floor, reached through a narrow passage.
- Pickaxes on tables and against the walls, a single bedroll and two carts outside – one empty, one with crates and ore.
- A smelter just outside, and a blacksmith’s forge down the hill.
Notable items
- Destruction skill book Response to Bero’s Speech on the barrel opposite the bedroll.
Tips
All six veins are free to mine, so grab a pickaxe and you have a full iron run in minutes; smelt the ore right outside. The ore in the carts and on the ground belongs to the mine, though, so taking it is theft. Left of the entrance, three rocks by some bushes hide an invisible chest belonging to Ahkari, the travelling Khajiit trader. It holds her stock – enchanted weapons, gems, potions, soul gems and gold – and refreshes after 48 hours once you ask her what she’s selling.
Good to know
The workers compete with Quicksilver Mine over how much ore they dig, but the real contest is price, and the neighbours win easily thanks to valuable quicksilver ore. Iron-Breaker’s pride is mostly in the name.
