Soul Tear

Soul Tear (Rii Vaaz Zol) rips out an enemy's soul and raises them as your thrall. A Dawnguard shout taught by Durnehviir – how it works.

Soul Tear is one of the darkest shouts in Skyrim. Your Thu’um tears the soul out of your target – and if it dies, you trap its soul and raise the body to fight for you.

How to get it

Added by Dawnguard. The undead dragon Durnehviir teaches it to you after you summon him from the Soul Cairn.

How it works

  • It only works with all three words – one or two words do nothing.
  • The full shout deals 300 damage.
  • If it kills an enemy below level 100, the soul goes into an empty soul gem (you need one in your inventory) and the body rises as your ally for 60 seconds, then turns to ash.
  • It can’t be used at point-blank range – aim a little away from yourself.

Effect per word

Only works with all three words: 300 damage, soul trap and reanimation for 60 seconds.

Word Wall locations

No Word Wall. Taught by Durnehviir after you summon him from the Soul Cairn (Dawnguard).
