“Prophet” on the vampire side sends you after the same missing Moth Priest as the Dawnguard version – but this time you’re not rescuing him, you’re claiming him for Harkon. (Sided with the hunters? See Prophet (Dawnguard).)
How it starts
After The Bloodstone Chalice, Garan Marethi sends you to Harkon. The Lord of Castle Volkihar wants to end the sun’s tyranny over vampires through a prophecy written in the Elder Scrolls – and only a trained Moth Priest can read them.
Walkthrough
Finding the trail
Carriage drivers (some want persuasion or gold), innkeepers, the College of Winterhold – which Serana suggests – or the Winking Skeever in Solitude will all point you towards Dragon Bridge.
Dragon Bridge
The boy Clinton tells you the priest’s guarded carriage went south over the bridge. Follow the road to an overturned carriage where Imperial guards and vampires killed each other. A Vampire’s Note on one of the bodies says the priest was taken to Forebears’ Holdout, which now appears on the map in Haafingar.
Forebears’ Holdout
Someone got there first. A Dawnguard squad under the commander Vanik has stormed the cave and killed the vampires guarding the priest. You’ll have to cut through the Dawnguard and their armored troll, then defeat Vanik by the barrier where the Moth Priest is held.
The Weystone Focus is on the body of the vampire Malkus, who died in the Dawnguard assault. Take it and use it to bring down the barrier.
Making a thrall
Dexion Evicus comes out fighting, still half-enthralled. Defeat him, then use your Vampire’s Seduction power and feed on him to make him your thrall. Order him to Castle Volkihar and report to Harkon.
The reading
In the castle, Dexion reads Serana’s Elder Scroll. Two more scrolls are needed to complete the prophecy – one held by Serana’s mother Valerica, the other perhaps already in your pack. That leads to Seeking Disclosure, Scroll Scouting and Chasing Echoes.
Notes
- Vanik only appears in this vampire version; Dawnguard players fight Malkus instead.
- Asking Dagur at The Frozen Hearth in Winterhold for rumours can start the vampirism-cure quest Rising at Dawn – not what you want right now.
