Lord Harkon is the master of the Volkihar Clan and the big bad of the Dawnguard add-on, whichever side you pick. He’s a Nord, a Vampire Lord and one of the few beings in Tamriel who can grant pure-blooded vampirism. He also has a plan, and it’s not a small one: use an ancient prophecy to blot out the sun forever – the “Tyranny of the Sun” as he likes to call it.
Family trouble
The prophecy needs the blood of a daughter of Coldharbour, which is a polite way of saying his own daughter, Serana. His wife Valerica saw where this was heading and hid Serana away for centuries. Harkon’s obsession with the plan is a big part of why his family fell apart.
Role in Dawnguard
When you bring Serana home to Castle Volkihar, Harkon offers you his gift in “Bloodline”. Accept and you join his court; refuse and he throws you out, sending you back to Isran and the Dawnguard. Either way, the questline ends with a showdown against him in “Kindred Judgment”.
