White Ridge Barrow

Earthquake-torn Nordic ruin in northern Solstheim with reavers, spiders, the Spider Scroll Imbuing Chamber, a Cyclone Word Wall and the Dragon Priest Dukaan.

White Ridge Barrow is a medium-sized Nordic ruin in the north of Solstheim, east of the Stalhrim Source and southwest of Saering’s Watch. Added with the Dragonborn expansion, it mixes the usual Nordic tomb with a mad experiment: Merilar Rendas and Servos Rendas have turned the place into a spider laboratory. At the bottom wait the Dragon Priest Dukaan, a Word Wall and a Black Book.

What you’ll find

  • Draugr, Reavers (some controlled by spiders), albino spiders, Jumping Flame Spiders and Flame Cloaked Spiders, plus a Draugr Deathlord depending on level.
  • A split drawbridge: the first chain only lowers half; the chain for the second half is above a chest on the far side.
  • The White Ridge Sanctum, a huge cavern with a chasm, a prison of spider-controlled reavers behind a locked door and cobweb-choked living quarters.
  • The Imbuing Chamber for making Spider Scrolls, also reachable through a trap door in a small hut outside.
  • Plenty of ore: ruby geodes, two Heart Stone deposits, silver and iron ore in a trough.
  • Ingredients such as Spider Eggs, Imp Stool, Salt Piles and Fly Amanita.

Quests

Reading Black Book: The Sallow Regent, found directly beneath the balcony facing the Word Wall, takes you into Hermaeus Mora’s realm.

Notable items

  • Dukaan‘s Dragon Priest mask.
  • Black Book: The Sallow Regent.
  • Word Wall for Cyclone.
  • Spider Experiment Notes, Amongst the Draugr and Harvesting Frostbite Spider Venom.
  • Leveled chests and a soul gem by the bridge.

Tips

To cross the broken drawbridge, step onto the small platform by the wooden wall to the right and use Whirlwind Sprint to the other side, then pull the second chain. Don’t kill Dukaan right on top of his sarcophagus – his remains can fall through the floor and take the mask with them. Pods and webs mean ambushes, so step carefully.

Good to know

Leaning walls and sunken rooms suggest an earthquake hit the barrow long ago. Loot and enemies only respawn once the whole barrow has been explored.
