The Kitchen is an east-wing addition for a Hearthfire homestead – Lakeview Manor, Windstad Manor or Heljarchen Hall, all built identically. It requires the Main Hall. If you’re tired of making every meal in a pot over a fire, this is where your Dragonborn finally gets an oven.
What you’ll find
- A rectangular ground-floor room; like the Greenhouse and Trophy Room, nothing is added upstairs.
- An oven for baking recipes – building a kitchen is the only way to bake without Creation Club content.
- A butter churn, which comes with one of the low tables, for a steady supply of butter.
- A cooking pot. The Kitchen, the Main Hall and the Small House layout are the only homestead spots that can have one.
- Barrels, cupboards, tables, shelves, hanging racks, a washbasin, small chandeliers, wall sconces, a fireplace, mounted elk antlers and a mounted horker head (only after the fireplace). Fully furnished, the room fills up with food and ingredients.
Building costs
The structure costs 18 sawn logs, 14 quarried stone, 20 nails, 3 clay, 2 iron fittings, 2 locks and 4 hinges. With all furnishings, the totals rise to 38 sawn logs, 54 nails, 21 quarried stone, 5 clay, 9 iron ingots, 12 iron fittings, 4 hinges, 2 locks, 7 goat horns, 2 leather strips, 2 horker tusks and a set of large antlers. Build it all at the indoor carpenter’s workbench, or pay the steward 1,500 gold to furnish it.
Tips
Build the fireplace before you go hunting horkers, since the mounted horker head stays locked until it exists. If you remodel the Small House into an entryway, its cooking pot vanishes, which makes the Kitchen’s pot more valuable. Some players report the butter churn working only once, so don’t plan a dairy empire around it.
