Mammoths are the gentle, woolly giants of the tundra – gentle until something attacks them or their herd. Then they charge, trample and toss, and they have enough health to keep it up for a while.
Where to find them
Almost always near a giant camp, especially on the plains around Whiterun. Attack a mammoth and the giant herding it will come running, so plan accordingly.

How to beat it
Fight from a distance or high ground. If a giant is nearby, decide first whether you want to fight both at once – usually you don't. Arrows and destruction spells from a rock ledge make the fight safe.
