Vantus Loreius is an Imperial farmer who lives with his wife Curwe at Loreius Farm, just north of Whiterun. Most days he’d be a perfectly forgettable farmer. Unfortunately, a jester with a coffin has broken down right outside his gate.
Where to find them
Vantus spends his time at Loreius Farm with Curwe.
Quests
Vantus plays a central part in Delayed Burial. Cicero, the cheerful little jester waiting by the road, needs his wagon wheel fixed, and Vantus is the man with the tools. He has turned Cicero down again and again. A jester in Skyrim, carting around a huge box he claims holds his dead mother? Vantus is sure there’s something shady inside, maybe contraband, weapons or skooma.
You can go two ways:
- Help Cicero: persuade Vantus that a stranger in trouble deserves a hand. He grudgingly admits you’re right, apologises, and promises to come down and help soon.
- Help Vantus: agree to tell the guard who patrols the road that Cicero is up to no good. Vantus promises you a few coins when you come back.
Personality & relationships
Vantus is suspicious and short-tempered, and greets you with an exasperated “what now?” At home he worries about his wife: he tells Curwe not to go poking around the old boneyard to the northwest, where scavengers pick at mammoth remains. He’s also baffled when she says she wants to turn half the field into an herb garden.
Good to know
- Side against Cicero, and Vantus and Curwe may later be found murdered, presumably by the jester, even though both are normally essential. The Dark Brotherhood isn’t known for forgiving rudeness.
- Long after the whole affair, Vantus may still say he just needs to grab his tools and then he’ll see to Cicero.
