Secunda’s Kiss is a modest giant encampment out on the open tundra southwest of Whiterun. At first glance it looks like any other giant camp, until you notice the big central rocks are dressed up with mammoth skulls and bones, which makes the whole place feel less like a campsite and more like a shrine or a graveyard. Behind the camp a trail climbs toward Bleak Falls Barrow, so plenty of early-game travellers stumble past it whether they meant to or not.
What you’ll find
- Usually two giants – a small crew by giant-camp standards, but still two giants.
- A ring of large stones decorated with the bones and skulls of mammoths, unlike the plain rocks at other camps.
- A bonfire with a charred skeever and a couple of mammoth cheese pouches lying nearby.
- Lots of tundra cotton growing around the camp.
Quests
The camp can be the target of the bounty quest Kill the Giant, where a Jarl wants a troublesome giant dealt with. If you take that job, these are the giants on the receipt.
Notable items
- A chest beside the bonfire.
- A giant’s club that only a follower can pick up – you can look, but you can’t lift.
Tips
Guards will tell you that the giants regard this circle of stones as sacred and that you should tread carefully – sound advice, since a giant’s swing can send a low-level character into orbit. If you just want the tundra cotton or the path to the barrow, give the camp a wide berth and the giants will generally leave you alone. If you want the chest, bring a bow, some high ground and a healthy respect for physics.
Good to know
Secunda is one of the two moons circling Nirn, which gives the name a nicely mysterious ring. Oddly, your local map labels the spot “Secunda’s Shelf”, while everything else calls it Secunda’s Kiss.
