Malthyr Elenil is a Dunmer living in the Gray Quarter of Windhelm, where he works at the New Gnisis Cornerclub. He is not happy with his lot: the Dark Elves live in what he openly calls a slum, and he blames Ulfric Stormcloak and his supporters for wanting it that way.
Where to find them
He spends his days at the cornerclub and usually sleeps on its top floor. He likes to note that the place has been busy at night lately – and suspects Elda over at Candlehearth Hall is jealous.
Quests
Malthyr has no quest of his own, but he matters if you go after the double-distilled skooma bottle for Stands-In-Shallows: steal it from the cornerclub and Malthyr may send hired thugs after you. He also passes on the rumor about Aventus Aretino, the Imperial boy trying to reach the Dark Brotherhood – a handy nudge towards Innocence Lost.
Personality & relationships
Ask about Morrowind and he admits he thinks about the homeland every single day. Still, he has ties here, moving would be a hassle, and Ambarys couldn’t run the cornerclub without him. He sees no reason why Dunmer should be an underclass to the Nords and feels the Nords rather owe them.
He has pinned his hopes on Brunwulf Free-Winter, urging the war hero to speak to Ulfric about the cramped, poorly guarded alleys of the Gray Quarter – he even calls the district’s name an insult. If the Empire takes the city, Malthyr is openly glad: he finds the Imperials far more open-minded, and he even says Ulfric’s death was justice.
He can be surprisingly kind to fellow Dunmer, warning a Dark Elf Dragonborn to stay on guard in a city that is rough on their people.
