Ambarys Rendar is a Dark Elf who runs the New Gnisis Cornerclub, the tavern in the Gray Quarter of Windhelm. He sells food and drinks, and serves an extra helping of resentment toward the city’s Nords free of charge.
Where to find them
Behind the counter of the New Gnisis Cornerclub, deep in the Dunmer district.
Services
Ambarys sells food and drink at the Cornerclub. Ask him about the city and he will also point aspiring mages toward the College of Winterhold, adding that Ulfric’s court wizard sometimes takes an apprentice.
Personality & relationships
Ambarys has nothing kind to say about Nords. He complains that the Gray Quarter is a forgotten alley where the filth of the upper city drains down, that the guards never help, and that Ulfric Stormcloak could not even find time to visit. He explains that the Dunmer came west when Red Mountain erupted and made breathing in Morrowind nearly impossible, and that Windhelm was simply the first city on the road. As for the murders in town, he does not care unless a Dunmer is the victim.
He needles Suvaris Atheron about working for a Nord shipping family until she tells him to pour a drink or leave her alone. He also has lines aimed at Scouts-Many-Marshes about low dock wages and Nord prejudice, though Scouts never actually visits the Cornerclub, so those talks don’t happen in play.
Good to know
- Playing a Nord? Expect sarcastic greetings about another Nord coming slumming. Playing a Dunmer gets you a warm welcome as a brother or sister instead.
- If the Empire takes Windhelm, he celebrates the end of persecution under Ulfric.
- His long-term plan is to save enough money to go home to Morrowind in style.
