Klimmek is a Nord in Ivarstead who fishes for a living and makes regular supply runs up the mountain to the Greybeards. He shares his house with his friend Bassianus Axius, who has a key to the place.
Where to find them
He lives in his house in Ivarstead and is often seen on the road leading out of town toward the 7,000 Steps and High Hrothgar.
Quests
Climb the Steps: Klimmek normally hauls preserved food – dried fish, salted meat – up to the monastery free of charge, out of a sort of unspoken understanding with the monks. Lately his legs and the dangerous road have kept him home. Offer to go in his place and he hands you a bag of supplies to leave in the offering chest between the two stairways below High Hrothgar’s entrance. He warns of the odd wolf pack and icy steps, and pays you a small reward when you return.
The Book of Love: Klimmek and Fastred used to be together before her attention turned to Bassianus. She believed he cared more about fishing than about her. If you persuade him to tell her how he really feels, she may decide to stay in Ivarstead with him.
Personality & relationships
Klimmek is a modest, good-natured working man who grumbles that the builders of the 7,000 Steps should have put the monastery closer to the ground. Funny detail: for all his trips up the mountain, he has never actually seen a Greybeard – and he’s not keen to, since masters of the Thu’um could kill a man with a single word. He has also never been let inside, though he hopes that might happen one day. Fellow villager Gwilin sometimes asks him about the next delivery.
Good to know
His name echoes the German “erklimmen” and the Dutch “klimmen”, both about climbing – fitting for the village’s stair-climber. If you’ve helped him and he later dies, he leaves you 100 gold.
