Radiant Raiment is the clothing store just inside the main gate of Solitude, and the only shop in Skyrim that focuses on fashion. It is run by two High Elf sisters, Taarie and Endarie, who look down on practically every customer – Taarie at least pretends to try. Come here when you need fine clothes, jewelry or something you simply cannot buy anywhere else.
What you’ll find
- A wide range of apparel: robes, tunics, boots, hats, gloves and outfits in many colors, plus amulets, circlets, necklaces and rings, both enchanted and plain.
- Exclusive stock: the Alik’r hood, Hammerfell garb, mourner’s clothes and mourner’s hat are not sold by any other merchant.
- Amulets of the Nine Divines – usually a few at a time, not the whole set at once.
- Children’s clothes (Hearthfire), handy if you have adopted.
- Behind the counter: piles of clothes, four circlets, a strongbox and a sabre cat pelt. A kitchen to the right, a basement with food and alchemy ingredients, and upstairs bedrooms with a business ledger and a large bookshelf.
- Irnskar Ironhand sometimes wanders through, and takes over the counter if Endarie dies.
Quests
Fit for a Jarl starts here: Taarie has a task for you here. Finishing it is also said to help with the shop’s trespassing bug.
Notable items
- Books: The Real Barenziah, Book II and The Wolf Queen, Books III and VII.
Tips
Taking the Investor perk in Speech and putting money into the store makes the sisters a little less rude – a small price for dignity. The shop is open 8 AM to 8 PM, but it occasionally treats you as a trespasser even during business hours; leaving, visiting another shop and coming back, or simply waiting outside, usually fixes it.
You can marry Taarie and use the shop as a home. Everything inside becomes yours, though Endarie keeps following you around and will still call the guards if she catches you picking the strongbox lock. For storage, the basement chest and cupboard, the small kitchen cupboard and all upstairs containers are safe; avoid the basement barrels and the big shop cupboard, which reset.
Good to know
According to Erikur and his sister Gisli, Erikur actually owns the building and rents it to the sisters. He grumbles that they charge him double; Gisli points out that he keeps raising their rent.
