Moesring Pass

Riekling-held mountain pass northwest of the Temple of Miraak, home of a strange crashed vessel with chests, Shalidor’s Insights and ore and gem deposits nearby.

Moesring Pass is a mountain pass on Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion, lying due northwest of the Temple of Miraak and north of the Altar of Thrond. A tribe of rieklings guards it, and the reason is the oddest wreck on the island: a strange vessel that looks like a Dwemer ship – or an airship that didn’t quite make it.

What you’ll find

  • Rieklings – they’ve built a camp with a tent and campfire and are not keen on visitors.
  • The Strange Vessel – a capsized wreck holding two chests, one of them of Ancient Nordic design.
  • East Empire Company Strongbox – sitting on a flipped end table outside the vessel’s door, to the right past the moose head.
  • Ore and gems – just northeast of the pass, beyond the last riekling buildings, there’s a corundum ore vein, a silver ore vein and two sapphire geodes.
  • A summit flag – at the top of the mountain, where a non-hostile snow bear may appear.

Quests

The vessel is a possible location for Shalidor’s Insights, and the pass can hold the Ring of the Erudite, one of the Rings of Blood Magic.

Notable items

  • Shalidor’s Insights (inside the strange vessel)
  • Possible Ring of the Erudite
  • East Empire Company Strongbox
  • A fork on a barrel by the riekling campfire – which you can equip as a weapon, if you’re feeling bold

Tips

Rieklings are small but numerous, so pull them toward you instead of charging into the middle of the camp. After the fight, check outside the vessel before heading in – the strongbox is easy to miss next to all the clutter. Bring a pickaxe for the corundum and silver, and don’t panic if you meet a snow bear at the summit flag: this one is reportedly friendly. Do not test that theory too hard.

Good to know

Players have noticed that the capsized ship resembles the Patchwork Airship from Bloodmoon. The pass is also said to be where the last battle between the Nords and the Snow Elves was fought – a lot of history for a place now run by rieklings.
