Miraak (Mask)

Miraak’s mask is the tentacled helmet of the first Dragonborn, a Dragonborn DLC magicka mask that comes in light and heavy versions and scales with level.

Miraak’s mask is the eerie, tendril-covered helmet worn by Miraak, the first Dragonborn and the villain of the Dragonborn DLC. Along with Konahrik, it is one of only two dragon priest masks with a truly unique design. It comes in both light and heavy versions, and its enchantment raises your maximum magicka, which fits a man who spent centuries hoarding forbidden knowledge.

How to get it

This is the trophy for finishing the main questline of the Dragonborn DLC on Solstheim. After a long chase through Solstheim and the realm of Apocrypha, you finally face Miraak in a climactic battle at the end of the story. Once he is defeated, his body is left as little more than a skeleton, and you can loot his gear from it, including the mask, his robes and Miraak’s Sword. There is only one chance, so make sure you pick it up before leaving.

Is it worth wearing?

The mask is leveled. In the game data, the light version gives 50, 60 or 70 extra magicka and the heavy version 40, 60 or 70, with armor ratings of 23, 25 or 27 depending on your level when you get it. So reaching the end of the DLC at a higher level pays off. Fortify Magicka is not as flashy as the bonuses on the other Dragonborn masks such as Zahkriisos, Dukaan or Ahzidal, which boost elemental damage. Compared with Nahkriin, it lacks the cheaper spells but can match or exceed its magicka bonus. Choosing the light version also lets mages keep their light armor perks. Mostly, though, people wear it because it looks absolutely menacing.

Good to know

  • Its design is said to resemble a mass of tendrils and a Seeker’s face, a nod to Hermaeus Mora.
  • Because the mask is leveled, its stats are set when you obtain it and do not grow with you afterwards, according to players.
