Konahrik

Konahrik is the golden ninth dragon priest mask, a heavy helmet you only earn by filling the Bromjunaar shrine with all eight other masks first.

Konahrik is the crown jewel of Skyrim’s dragon priest masks: a heavy helmet in gleaming gold, with a black-and-gold hood instead of the usual brown one. Its name means “Warlord” in the dragon tongue, and unlike every other mask it was never worn by a priest you have to kill. Its enchantment, Konahrik’s Privilege, kicks in when you are close to death: it may heal you and scorch nearby enemies, or even summon a spectral dragon priest to fight for you.

How to get it

This is the reward for a long scavenger hunt across Skyrim. The steps:

  1. Defeat the eight named dragon priests and take their masks: Hevnoraak, Krosis, Morokei, Nahkriin, Otar, Rahgot, Vokun and Volsung.
  2. Travel to Labyrinthian and enter the small central barrow east of the main entrance, Bromjunaar Sanctuary.
  3. Pick up the Wooden Mask lying near some skeletal remains and put it on. You are sent back to the sanctuary as it looked before it fell to ruin.
  4. Place each of the eight masks on its matching bust at the restored shrine. Once all eight are in place, Konahrik appears.

After you claim Konahrik you can take the other eight masks back off the shrine, so nothing is lost.

Is it worth wearing?

With an armor rating of 24 it is the toughest of the nine Skyrim masks, and it is tempered with a Gold Ingot. The enchantment is the interesting part. According to the source, when you get hit below 15% health there is a 15% chance to cast a big group heal and wrap you in a flame cloak for ten seconds, and a 3% chance to also call a spectral dragon priest who throws ice spikes and raises corpses. It is random, so do not build your strategy around it, but on a tanky heavy-armor character it turns many near-deaths into comebacks. Unlike the once-a-day Avoid Death perk, it can trigger again and again. For pure numbers, a helmet enchanted by yourself may beat it, but nothing beats the bragging rights.

Good to know

  • It is heavy armor, so it does not count for the Mage Armor perk.
  • Putting Konahrik on the shrine removes any smithing improvement you gave it.
  • It is the only one of the nine masks without a dragon priest of its own.
