Ranmir is a Nord from Winterhold who lives with his sister Birna in her shop. According to the innkeeper, he used to be a cheerful man in love with a woman named Isabelle Rolaine. When she left him, the cheer left with her, and these days he drinks to forget.
Where to find them
Most of the time you’ll find him at the Frozen Hearth, nursing yet another mead. Once his story is resolved, he no longer hangs around the inn.
Quests
- A Few Words with You – Haran wants you to get Ranmir to settle his bar tab. Talk him round with a Speech check or pay the debt yourself. This is needed before the next part of his story opens up.
- Drowned Sorrows – find out what really happened to Isabelle Rolaine.
- Like most drunks in Skyrim, he will also gladly accept a free drink from you.
Personality & relationships
Ranmir is grumpy, bitter and not interested in small talk. Unless you bring another round, he’d like you to keep walking, and his view of his hometown is that not enough of it fell into the sea. Birna regularly tracks him down at the inn, begging him to come home and asking how much of their money he has spent. He brushes her off every time.
Behind the bar, Dagur is happy to keep serving as long as Ranmir pays, while Haran worries about where it will end. If the Legion takes over the town, he mutters darkly about the Thalmor showing up next, though he can’t quite remember what they’re called.
Good to know
- He can be killed by the magical anomalies during the College quest Containment.
- Haran may still ask you to collect his tab even if he is dead.
