Birna is a Nord pawnbroker in Winterhold and the owner of Birna’s Oddments, a modest general store in a town that is mostly ruins and snow. She didn’t open a shop here by choice: she and her brother grew up in Winterhold, he drinks away almost every coin she makes, and trading was the only way to get by.
Where to find them
She works out of Birna’s Oddments, which is also the house she shares with her brother. When she isn’t behind the counter, she’s often trying to drag him home from the inn.
Quests
Ask about bad deals and she’ll grumble about a strange claw someone talked her into buying, along with a story about returning it to Yngol’s chamber in Yngol Barrow. She has no intention of setting foot in an ancient tomb, so she’ll happily sell you the Coral Dragon Claw for 50 gold and make it your problem. She asks you to let her know if it turns out to be worth something, but has nothing new to say afterwards.
She is also tied to Drowned Sorrows, the quest to get her brother Ranmir back on his feet.
Services
Birna buys and sells general goods, but her stock is the smallest of any general goods merchant in Skyrim, usually around 15 to 20 items. Don’t expect miracles.
Personality & relationships
Birna is practical, blunt and quietly exhausted. Most of her conversations with Ranmir end in arguments about money and mead. Once his drinking problem is sorted out she’s noticeably happier and says she can finally afford to expand her selection, though in practice her stock stays the same.
Good to know
Steal from her and she may hire thugs to come after you.
