Haran is a Nord woman from Winterhold who helps run the Frozen Hearth, the town’s lone inn, alongside her husband Dagur. She also raises their daughter Eirid, which in a town this small means keeping an eye on who she plays with.
Where to find them
Haran works inside the Frozen Hearth, offering food and drink to the handful of customers who still pass through. Ask why the place is so empty and she’ll tell you the town has fallen on hard times: most people left long ago, and those who stayed are either stubborn or a bit mad.
Quests
- A Few Words with You – Haran wants you to talk to Ranmir, the town drunk, about the money he still owes for his drinks. Win a Speech check or simply cover his tab.
- Drowned Sorrows – later in Ranmir’s story, Haran points you to Vex in Riften for the next lead.
- New Allegiances (Dawnguard) – if you side with the vampires, a courtier of Castle Volkihar may name Haran as someone to turn for political gain.
Personality & relationships
Haran has no patience for the town’s anti-mage mood. College members drink at her inn every night and Nelacar rents a room there, and when Dagur mentions that Jarl Korir has been complaining about the clientele, she suggests the Jarl can eat and drink at home if he doesn’t like it.
She is less relaxed about Ranmir, who is drinking himself into the floorboards. Dagur would leave him be as long as he pays, but Haran thinks his sister Birna might see things differently. She also wants Eirid to stop playing the ‘Hunt the Elf’ game with Assur.
Good to know
Killing Haran or stealing from the Frozen Hearth can bring hired thugs after you. During Containment she begs you to make the magical chaos stop.
