Bulfrek is a Nord servant working for Jarl Skald the Elder in the White Hall of Dawnstar. His family has served Skald’s family for generations, and judging by his tone, the job has not become any more rewarding over time.
Where to find them
In the White Hall, Dawnstar’s Jarl’s palace, tending to Skald’s endless demands. If the Imperial Legion takes the town in the Civil War, Bulfrek goes into exile with Skald and his housecarl Jod, and you’ll find him in the Palace of the Kings in Windhelm.
Personality & relationships
Sarcasm is Bulfrek’s survival tool. Ask about him and he calls himself a mere servant who isn’t worth anyone’s time; ask how he likes the job and he answers with a flat “wonderful” that could curdle milk. He is clearly resentful of how little respect his master shows him.
Skald doesn’t help. In one exchange, Bulfrek nervously asks whether he might enlist with the Stormcloaks and fight the Imperials – and Skald simply laughs at the idea of a servant going to war. In another, Skald assigns him to polish a whole delivery of new swords and armour, and Bulfrek’s dry reply about wasting nobody else’s precious time sails right over the Jarl’s head.
Exile doesn’t improve his mood: he complains that the Jarl got thrown out and he is still the one cleaning up the mess.
Good to know
- He is marked as essential, so he can’t be killed.
- After an Imperial takeover he may sometimes vanish instead of turning up in Windhelm.
