Skulvar Sable-Hilt is a Nord stable master who sells horses at the Whiterun Stables, just outside Whiterun. He runs the place for its owner, Lillith Maiden-Loom, and he’s one of the first merchants many players visit, because walking across Skyrim gets old fast.
Where to find them
He’s at the stables selling horses from 8 AM to 8 PM, then goes inside for the night.
Services
Skulvar sells a horse. The one he has for sale is a seven-year-old mare that the stable hands call Queen Alfsigr, or Allie for short, and you can name her whatever you like once she’s yours. According to him, none of his horses are older than nine or younger than six.
Quests
He’s a possible target for the Companions‘ radiant Rescue Mission, where you track him down and bring him back to Whiterun.
Personality & relationships
Skulvar talks like a horse-mad old soldier. He swears that once you’ve killed a man from horseback you’ll never want to fight on foot again, and he cheerfully tells Lillith that the war has been great for sales. His son Jervar is a constant headache. Skulvar doesn’t think the boy has the brains to be a stable master, and when Jervar announces he’d rather go dragon hunting, his father’s reaction is harsh. Skulvar is also friendly with Uthgerd the Unbroken, and an unused conversation shows him worrying about her travels.
Good to know
- During In My Time of Need, Kematu can kill him while waiting at the stables.
- If you kill Jervar, Skulvar sends hired thugs after you.
